ER. TARIQUE AZAM
An Introduction
Born in Azamgarh, UP (India) on 20th Feb, 1950, Er. Tarique Azam obtained his elementary education at Phadgudia village Madrasa and Islamia Primary School. He completed high school at a nearby higher secondary school and Intermediate (UP Board) from Shibli National College, Azamgarh in 1969.
In the same year, 1969, Er. Tarique Azam entered IIT Madras, Department of Civil Engineering, and graduated with first-class honors in 1974. He pursued his Masters in Geotechnical Engineering at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Bangkok, Thailand, and completed it in 1976. After his education, Er. Tarique Azam became involved in the design and execution of major building and infrastructure projects across various countries. His work spanned Malaysia, Indonesia, the Middle East, East and North Africa, and included projects such as high-rise buildings, highways, railways, and power stations.
Notably, Er. Tarique Azam served as the Lead Engineer of the foundation design team for the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur, which was the tallest building in the world at that time. He also held positions such as Project Director for the Serai-Desaru Expressway, which features the longest mid-span cable-stayed bridge in Southeast Asia, and Project Director (Design) for the Malaysia-Singapore Second Crossing and a 2,100 MW Power Station Project at Manjung, Perak, Malaysia. After a successful career, Er. Tarique Azam retired in March 2011 from his positions as the Chief Executive Officer of Ranhill Engineers and Constructors and Executive Vice President of Ranhill Berhad, a publicly listed company in Malaysia.
Currently, Er. Tarique Azam is the Chairman of his family company, Tasrif-Azam Holding Sdn Bhd, the President of Anjuman-e-Urdu Malaysia, and the Chairman of Hilal Foundation, Malaysia. In India, Er. Tarique Azam holds significant roles as the Founder/President of Azam Welfare and Educational Society/Trust, the Founder/Chairman of Hera Public School, and the Founder/Chairman of Azam Career Development Centre in Phadgudia, Azamgarh, UP. He is also the President of UP Rabta Committee, one of the Directors of All India Educational Movement (for Asia Pacific), and a Founding member of Syed Hamid Foundation Delhi.
Er. Tarique Azam has a great passion for promoting holistic, broad-based quality basic education in underprivileged communities, especially in his native place, Azamgarh.
Message
According to Quranic perspective, knowledge is a prerequisite for the creation of just world in which authentic peace can prevail. Further the conception of knowledge was all encompassing without the division of secular(duniawi) and religious(deeni) education. During the early centuries of islam, muslims were master of both in light of the quranic prescription of excellence and well being in this world and hereafter.
