Born in Azamgarh, UP (India) on 20th Feb, 1950, Er. Tarique Azam obtained his elementary education at Phadgudia village Madrasa and Islamia Primary School. He completed high school at a nearby higher secondary school and Intermediate (UP Board) from Shibli National College, Azamgarh in 1969.
In the same year, 1969, Er. Tarique Azam entered IIT Madras, Department of Civil Engineering, and graduated with first-class honors in 1974. He pursued his Masters in Geotechnical Engineering at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Bangkok, Thailand, and completed it in 1975. After his education, Er. Tarique Azam became involved in the design and execution of major building and infrastructure projects across various countries. His work spanned Malaysia, Indonesia, the Middle East, and North Africa, and included projects such as high-rise buildings, highways, railways, and power stations.
Notably, Er. Tarique Azam served as the Lead Engineer of the foundation design team for the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur, which was the tallest building in the world at that time. He also held positions such as Project Director for the Senai-Desaru Expressway, which features the longest mid-span cable-stayed bridge in Southeast Asia, and Project Director (Design) for the Malaysia-Singapore Second Crossing and a 2,100 MW Power Station Project at Manjung, Perak, Malaysia. After a successful career, Er. Tarique Azam retired in March 2011 from his positions as the Chief Executive Officer of Ranhill Engineers and Constructors and Executive Vice President of Ranhill Berhad, a publicly listed company in Malaysia.
Mr. Tarique Mohammad is currently serving as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Zad Holding Company, a shareholding company listed in the Qatar Stock Exchange. Zad Holding consists of various subsidiary companies with diversified business interests within Qatar and manages a portfolio of financial investments in stock markets across the globe.
Tarique assumed the position of the Chief Executive Officer of Zad Holding company in January 2009 and has been instrumental in driving the diversification and growth strategies of the company organically as well as through mergers and acquisitions. Over the span of his career, he has acquired extensive experience in building organizational capabilities, forming strategic alliances, business restructuring & diversification, executing growth strategies and financial investments. Prior to joining Zad holding, he held various executive management positions across both private and public ownership companies in the GCC region and Australia.
Tarique holds double Master’s degrees, an MBA (Marketing) and a Master of Applied Finance from Australia. He completed his Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) degree from Jamia Millia Islami, New Delhi with distinction.
